Overview
Opened by its namesake, HRH the Prince of Wales, this research centre has been established by mental health charity SANE and is built on the site of Warnford Hospital in Oxford. This classically-designed, cream-coloured building comprises research laboratories, interview rooms and offices and features a sunken library with a convex roof that also acts as a seminar and lecture hall. At the heart of this centre is an impressive triangular-plan entrance hall and seminar room. The gardens have been landscaped to become a place of contemplation for patients and staff from the centre and from the adjacent hospital. The complex is now a leading international research centre, dedicated to exploring the causes and treatments of mental illness.
