Balliol College
Montgomery Architects
The Church of St Cross in Holywell is one of the oldest buildings in the City of Oxford - the surviving Chancel arch was built about 1180. This project saw the refurbishment and alteration of the Grade 1 listed church. The project included the preservation of the chancel for occasional use, the introduction of temperature controlled archive storage space for Balliol College’s medieval manuscripts and early books. Full conservation work was undertaken, not only on the building's structure but also on the stained glass and painted ceilings.
