Works included demolition of the existing science building, a two storey traditionally constructed block and brick building. The materials form the site were, where practicable, retained crushed and recycled. The new Science Centre Building was constructed on piled foundations with a steel frame structure, with blockwork skin to elevations. External finishes of pre- coloured render to ground floor and timber cladding to upper floors. Pre cast floors and stairs, with a standing seam metal roof complete the structure.
Heating via joint Bio-mass boiler/Gas combination to under floor heating zones. Internal accommodation provides teaching rooms, laboratories and administration facilities, with feature sedam roof and viewing area. Externally, full landscaping of surrounding areas, new timber crib retaining wall to banked meadow (south elevation) and reinstatement of car park on completion.
